For network operators, NetOS® technology has the ability to:
- Manage diverse sub-networks (sensor, wireless and wired)
- Dynamically switch between different wireless technologies e.g. Wi-Fi, 3G/4G, LTE etc.
- Combine the available bandwidths from each technology in order to meet the application's Quality of Service (QoS) requirements (in this case the delivery of uninterrupted high definition video).
Why is this important?
Video communication has been identified as one of the most important technologies to increase the efficiency and performance of the Ambulance and other Emergency services. This is because, during an emergency, real time video link allows first responders to make informed decisions regarding the situation on the field and take appropriate actions. However, establishing video link while an emergency unfolds is a difficult task because, by the very nature of the emergency, the areas of concern may cut off or the coverage from some of the communications networks affected by the same causes of the emergency themselves (e.g. flooding, riots, etc.).
The aim of the demonstrator is to provide an uninterrupted high-definition (HD) video link from a moving ambulance to any node of the core network (e.g. Emergency Control Center). We rely on the capability of the NetOS® to manage simultaneously several sub-networks including:
- a wired optical fibre “core” network,
- a Wi-Fi network,
- a LTE cellular network and
- a mesh network of sensors and actuators, etc.
Case study: Wireless Video
Our technology can be of vital importance in the case of wireless video. Video communication has been identified as one of the most important technologies to increase the performance of the Emergency services.
The deployment of an emergency service can be triggered based on a signal generated by a sensor in an Internet-of-Things mesh network. This is easily implemented thanks to NetOS® global view of underlying sub-networks.
Real time video allows first responders to make informed decisions in the field. We provide an uninterrupted high-definition (HD) video link from a moving ambulance to any node of the core network (e.g. Emergency Control Center).
