The REPLICATE Project consortium, which incudes Zeetta Networks, has been selected for funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020: Smart Cities and Communities programme.
The REPLICATE (REnaissance of PLaces with Innovative Citizenship And TEchnologies) Project received the highest score of all the entries for its innovative proposal to integrate energy, transport and ICT at scale in the City.
The €25million project aims to create integrated smart city solutions to tackle problems such as poor air quality, unsustainable energy use and traffic congestion. The vision of the project is to : "...increase the quality of life for citizens across Europe by demonstrating the impact of innovative technologies used to co-create smart city services with citizens, and prove the optimal process for replicating successes within cities and across cities."
There are three "leading" cities that will share the cash with projects from Bristol in the UK, San Sebastián in Spain and Florence in Italy. Three "follower" cities from Essen (Germany), Lausanne (Switzerland) and Nilufer (Turkey) and more "observer" cities including Guangzhou, Bogota, etc. will monitor the progress of the project and will be adopting the project results in their own cities.
Vassilis Seferidis, CEO of Zeetta Networks, commended:
"We are very pleased for not only winning, but also for coming first amongst more than 40 other consortia in this competition. It is Zeetta Networks' first EU-funded project and therefore a unique opportunity to test and demonstrate our technology in a real Smart City testbed. Moreover, it opens up new business development opportunities for Zeetta with the "follower" and "observer" cities.
As part of our participation in the REPLICATE project we will be focusing in extending the functionality of our technology to support the FIWARE Internet of Things (IoT) platform.
Further details of the 5-year REPLICATE Project are expected to be published in the coming months with the official commencement of the project in January 2016.
