Smart Infrastructure 2017 Drives Conversations Between Technology and Venues

Our Smart Infrastructure 2017 event challenged the current state of networking in stadia last week, with over 80 delegates attending from around the world to gain insight into the evolving smart culture in networking and venue management. Our innovative NetOS® platform was placed upon the Ashton Gate Stadium network, and we gave three live demonstrations on how our technology enables virtualization, automation, and monetisation.

We welcomed delegates from Capgemini, Telent, Munster Rugby, Connacht Rugby, West Ham United, Colt Technology, the University of Bristol, Accedian, IPC, and Triangle Networks, organisations who are responsible for ensuring their networking solutions remain at the cutting edge of what is possible – and on the theme of ‘Smart Leaders for Smart Venues’, we highlighted some of the issues and answers that form smart infrastructure today.

Beyond the opex/capex reduction case study on how a smaller stadium could implement cutting edge fan engagement technology, we wanted to give our delegates the experience of what a truly integrated platform that was software defined could offer a venue, so we created three demonstrations tailored to show how monetisation makes NetOS® simple for non-technical staff, how virtualization across a network allows vendor visibility and isolation, and automation enables instant purchases in a venue no matter where the on-demand point of sale is placed, to keep fan traffic flow moving.

Our speakers absolutely excelled, as Paul Lipscombe from Ashton Gate Stadium explained that “NetOS® is fundamental to our stadium as the platform means we are not locked into any vendor”, Mike Bohndiek from West Ham United stated that “We are redefining what smart technology is within stadiums”, and Thierry Chau from Ruckus Wireless predicted that “Organisations without open access will be obsolete within a few years”.

The panel that contained Paul and Mark Kelly from Ashton Gate Stadium, Nick Randall from Zeetta Networks, and Lisa Knights from Bristol Sport explored the complexities of data collection, analysis, and management, and how monetisation was an essential part of a stadium network’s offering.

Vast quantities of data were generated throughout the event, and at the close Mayur Channegowda, co=-founder of Zeetta Networks, revealed the most popular website visited by our delegates on the network – unsurprisingly it was Twitter, as we decided to live tweet the day for those unable to attend!

Venues that ignore the potential of smart platforms will, as Thierry Chau pointed out, be left behind.
